Football, fans and sponsorship

Hello readers, and welcome to my latest blog. Today Monarch Advisory Group has some very exciting news, especially if you follow AFL.

Being a Queenslander where Rugby Union and League is king, it took me a long time to get into AFL. I think I was turned off at a young age when I saw Warwick Capper in the brown and yellow Guernsey sporting a mullet. My husband has been trying to encourage me to support his team, Essendon, but that just didn’t seem right either. It wasn’t until about 18 months ago when I started getting involved with the Greater Western Sydney Giants that I really started to appreciate the athleticism involved in this game.

We are fortunate to be members of the GWS Giants, and my husband was part of the Captains Club which saw us enjoying the game in a corporate setting with the likes of Dipper, Melissa Doyle, Dermott Brereton to name a few. We often had players come and speak about their journey too. How can you not get enthused by the game in this environment?

When it comes to young players, you sometimes hear about their poor judgment and behaviour. What I really like about GWS was that there is a sense of commitment to the boys from the broader AFL community. They all live together in Breakfast Point where they have a “mother” figure who is the resident psychologist to ensure the boys’ wellbeing. The players take part in cooking classes and overall seem to be very well adjusted for their age – some are as young as 18 and most are from interstate. Taking this into consideration, I really respect how these players are looked after and this really made me want to support GWS even more.  So over and above purchasing every piece of clothing available – from Polo shirts, to jumpers, to stubby holders, caps, scarves and jackets, I discovered an opportunity to be able to sponsor one of the players.

Monarch Advisory Group is the official sponsor of Dylan Shiel (player #5, which happens to be my favourite number..). To me this is a big deal for a few reasons. Obviously from a business perspective I have the opportunity to advertise my business. My logo will be nicely represented whenever Dylan kicks a goal. Ladies, I also have the opportunity to have Dylan join me for one of my corporate functions….. Thinking “Fashion, Finance and Footy”!! Having said all this, I also think how amazing is it to be able to support an up and coming young player? From Dylan’s perspective, how cool is it that some stranger is keen to invest in his future? My sponsorship also goes towards ensuring the facilities for the players are top notch. It is actually a great feeling to be able to put something back into the community like this.

So next time you are having a lazy Saturday or Sunday in and the GWS Giants are playing, keep a special eye out for Dylan and Monarch Advisory Group!
