This is almost like a sequel to my first few blogs “Champagne, Shoes and Super…” I have recently been inspired to hold a ladies function (6pm, 31 July if you would like to join us!), and the reason for this is because I see many women get so busy with life, love, careers and babies, that sometimes they forget to look after their own financial affairs, or they rely on their Husband organising things for them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with outsourcing this to the husband, but please make sure you know what plan is in place in case something goes wrong.
In reference to “Champagne, Shoes and Super”, many of the female clients I have the opportunity to meet, are living life to the max with travel, shopping, long lunches and everything in between. This could be a reason as to why they have gravitated to me as their Financial Planner – birds of a feather kind of thing! But what I would like to stress is that whilst this is all a lot of fun now when we are young, healthy and working, what happens in the future when we may not have the ability to earn that same sort of income? Or worse still, if our lifestyle is cut short due to an illness or injury?
The rationale behind my function is that we all need a back up plan. Unfortunately some back up plans, such as meeting Mr Right, and Mr Wealthy, doesn’t always happen! So whilst we search for him, let’s put in place our very own back up plan instead, which is specifically tailored to you and your lifestyle. Could it be possible that we can structure a back up plan, and future plan without impacting too much on your lifestyle today? Absolutely! And this is exactly what I have already done with the majority of my clients.
On the flip side, many of my clients have found Mr Right, which I am thrilled for them, but this doesn’t mean they don’t need a back up plan too. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but divorce rates are still high. The last time I looked, divorce rates were at 50%, and 40% for second marriages. But worse than this is if the husband was no longer here due to illness or injury.
I think we have to sometimes remind ourselves that destiny is in our own hands, and unless we win the $50mil on Lotto, financial freedom doesn’t just happen. However if you have a plan with a Financial Planner who is there to keep you accountable, you might just be able to have the best of both worlds.
